"Dear Friends"

by J. Harmon Grahn

4 February 2003
Dear Friends,

A couple of weeks ago I received a letter from a correspondent who had evidently "reached the end of his rope," thrown up his hands in despair, and abandoned the visionary project he had been throwing "body and soul" into for the past 31 years. I myself was tardy in responding to his anguished letter, for frankly, I didn't immediately know what to say to him.

He had been working on an Internet project to create a real-time forum for "real democracy," and after countless hours of feverish toil, not to mention I don't know how much personal expense, and finally taking his project "on the air," the response he received was minimal, or less.

While watching CNN [he wrote], nursing toothaches I can't afford to cure, I saw that the new Harry Potter book now tops the best seller list with thirty thousand pre-publication orders ~ even though it hasn't even been released yet.

Then, comparing that with [my project's] (after three months) thirty-three signed up members (most of whom I badgered into it) (who don't participate), I was forced to the realization that either (1) I'm insane, (2) humanity isn't ready for democracy, (3) [my project] is a faulty method for fostering democracy, (4) people truly are apathetic, or (5) the predatory minority leaders' propaganda has been so effective that real democracy has no chance of ever succeeding in our world.

Have you ever felt that way, about "your burning issue?" I have a hunch my friend's wail of anguish may strike a resonant chord in many, as it did in me. After giving his letter a good deal of thought, I wrote back to him, in substance and in part, as follows:

I can appreciate how you feel; yet I wouldn't give up on the idea of democracy, or effective self-rule in harmony with one's fellows. It may not take the form you envision for it, but there is something profound and powerful going on in the world right now, and we may all be slack-jaw-astonished at how it plays out.

You gave yourself five (5) alternative choices for interpreting your experience with your project. My personal "vote," if you're interested, is along the lines of, "none of the above." I don't think you're insane, and I do not believe humanity is not ready for "responsible self-governance" (a term I prefer to "democracy"). There may be some truth to item (3) "[your project] is a faulty method for fostering democracy" - although I would choose a different word than "faulty." It is possible "democracy" is too narrow a concept for handling the multi-dimensional challenges of what I would prefer to call "responsible self-governance." I don't think item (4) is true. When hundreds of thousands of individuals muster in cities all over the world to voice their opposition to an undeclared war that hasn't even gotten started yet, I don't think they can be called "apathetic." The same goes for item (5): the "Evening News" may seem to speak with a single voice (I don't know for sure, I never watch it myself), but it is clearly evident there are a mighty lot of people who don't believe a word of it.

I can appreciate your bitter disappointment that your tireless toil over so many years was rewarded evidently by such slender manifest "results." Yet I say, "stand by, and watch what happens." I have a hunch we're all about to be "amazed!" I think a "tidal wave of change" is rolling our way on this planet at a breathtaking pace, and we are already being swept up in the wash of something quite beyond our comprehension. And when the wave has passed, and we scan the transfigured landscape in which we find ourselves, I think we will be astounded to observe how much more than we ever in our wildest imaginations dreamed would be brought about upon this planet.

I think that when most of us have sought in our modest ways to "make the world a better place," as a great many of us have done over quite a prolonged period of time, most of us have not raised our eyes, our aspirations, our hopes and visions, anywhere near high enough to comprehend the astounding changes that are now coming upon us. This is not a "bad thing." Who could have expected us to do otherwise? We who stand upon the Earth today are privileged to witness and participate in a planetary shift without precedent or example in all human history. Our "little efforts," which we have made with such tireless toil and earnest devotion, are being swept up together by a wave of such overwhelming magnitude as to make our efforts seem insignificant by comparison. And yet....

And yet, our very efforts, and earnest visions, and desperate yearning for a "better world" have had their parts to play in our individual lives, and have brought about transformations within each of us which are now combining synergistically in something global and astounding. It matters not whether our efforts "succeeded" or "failed." What is important is that we have made the effort, and are making the effort, to do whatever we think most needs to be done. For you, it's about Democracy; for me, it's about Community, and Individual Sovereignty; for that fellow, or lady, or couple "over there," it's about yet something else again - Cetaceans, or the Rain Forests, or Genetically Engineered Crops. The efforts of some have been rewarded with fame and fortune; most of us, however, have remained obscure and evidently entirely bypassed by the rush of human events.

It matters not; for we all have put our shoulders to the wheel, in our various unique ways; and we have started something rolling, which is "bigger than all of us," toward a destiny grander and more sublime than any of us could ever have imagined. Just watch what happens now. You'll be amazed! We'll all be amazed! "That Which Creates" will be amazed!!!

That was the substance, "slightly improved" here and there, of my reply to my downcast friend. I don't know if he took any encouragement from my words; perhaps they sounded to him like so much "pie in the sky, bye and bye." Yet I do have "reasons" for my convictions, which I would also like to share with you.

As already mentioned, I keep having intimations that there is a major breakthrough pending in the near-term, which will be seen as the "watershed event" dividing "what has been" from "what shall be," from now on. I feel it's manifestation has to do with achievement of a minimum threshhold of "consciousness elevation" for world humanity, and may take an "external shape," initially, such as NESARA, the National Economic Security And Reformation Act in the U.S.; which will have cascading beneficial effects globally as well, because of the inextricable interdependence of the global economy. (See also the recently updated "NESARA Historical background.")

It's taken me quite awhile to get to where I can take this astonishing story seriously; but it makes sense to me that not all those "in high places" are self-destructive and corrupt, and that there must be among them those who are Awakening too, with the world at large. Therefore, it is entirely plausible to me that there may be a network of "White Knights" who are using their power and influence behind the scenes for the liberation, not the further enslavement and destruction, of the human race.

I've grappled with this issue for quite some time, facing in particular the argument that we make our own reality, and are therefore entirely responsible ourselves, individually, for the state of the world in which we find ourselves. It is somehow a "cop-out," according to some interpretations of this view, to expect "rescue" from a contingent of miraculous "White Knights" of wealth and power who will at the eleventh hour ride in and make everything okay for the rest of us - particularly, for "me."

True enough, as far as it goes. Yet it is also true that "I" did not "myself," individually, invent the lightbulb, or the automobile, or the airplane, or the computer; yet "I" enjoy the use of all these things in the world of "my" individual experience. A great many "other people" combined their efforts "behind the scenes" (of "my" personal experience) to bring these miraculous benefits into "my" life, and into the lives of people everywhere. Therefore, it is not a "cop-out" after all, to imagine that there may be individuals in positions of wealth, worldly power, and influence who are able to "read the writing on the wall" as clearly as "I" can, and who are in a position to respond far more "effectively" than "I" am, and who are doing what needs to be done to solve the prediciment "they" and "I" face together. And anyway, who's to say that what "I" do, in the privacy of "my own closet," is after all less "effective," in the largest scheme of things, than what "they" do in the so-called "real world?"

Therefore, while I cannot verify conclusively that NESARA is real, it is plausible to me, and I certainly hope it is real, and will be publicly announced and implemented ASAP. This very day, if possible! Now wouldn't that be an astonishing "watershed event" of global proportions! - and one in which practically everyone could rejoice; because it would immediately declare global peace, restore genuine value to the world's currencies, and put large quantities of this genuine value into widespread circulation. It would completely dismantle the IRS in the U.S., and I imagine, its criminal counterparts elsewhere; liquidate most credit card and mortgage debt, and restore a genuine precious-metals-backed, debt-free Constitutional currency in America; and as a consequence of global economic necessity, in all other nations as well.

And that is only one possible thread in an elaborate tapestry of "little-known developments" taking place simultaneously in obscure corners of the world, with possibly unimagined, and heretofore unimaginably sweeping positive results for humans everywhere on the planet. "Pie in the sky?" Maybe. Yet I belive with a strong conviction that we humans currently resident on this planet are, probably in cooperation with "unseen forces" possibly beyond our comprehension, in the process, each in our "little way," of bringing into substantial manifestation something that will astound and delight most of us beyond our wildest imaginations. If you think so too, perhaps it will seem a "good thing" to you, to know that you are not alone in your conviction.

Love, Peace, Joy, Now,
Harmon

P.S.: My downcast friend wrote back to me as follows:

Dear Harmon,

Thanks for your kind and thoughtful reply.

My goals have reverted back to making "responsible self-governance" work again. I've tried to quit (cure) this obsession several times before. You know I've been at it for over thirty one years. I'm bipolar, Harmon. So, sometimes I yield to a series of negative events with deep depression, as I was the case when I wrote my last letter to you and everyone else who has been kind enough to try to help me find the forest in these trees. But you're all offering good advice and support. And, I deeply appreciate it.

"Our 'little efforts,' which we have made with such tireless toil and earnest devotion, are being swept up together by a wave of such overwhelming magnitude as to make our efforts seem insignificant by comparison."

That describes my expectations of MajorityVoice. I felt it was a way to bring all our (little) divided , isolated, un-united efforts together, in one place, to make it convenient for anyone to participate in "all decisions" which affect them, from their easy chairs ~ to enable more to participate in each effort ~ to give us the strength of our numbers in our war against tyranny.

I still think it's the core technology for such a (r)evolutionary new system of "responsible self-governance," though it needs a lot of fine tuning and further development. So, I'm selling everything to buy an economical, small motorhome, make it communicatively interactive, paint democracy all over it and travel America's activism trail, alone. If they won't come to me, I must go to them, until we all isolate all it's faults and work out all the details to make it fulfill my dream for our legacy to the children.

Love your email. Peace & Love to you, too, my friend.
