"Dear Friends"

25 May 2005
Dear Friends,

Please pardon the prolonged silence. It hasn't been silent at this end, and today I am able to break it at your end as well. I've written a book, upon which I would like to invite your further collaboration and expansion. The book, Metaconsciousness: Mythology for a Post-Civilized World, is published under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation Licnese, in both HTML and PDF formats, with the intent that it will be collaboratively expanded by many authors and myth-makers into a comprehensive mythology for a post-civilized world.

The work is derived from, and expands upon the Civilization and Beyond series of essays, yet differs from them in the important respect that it is no longer "aimlessly exploring." I have established a specific objective in relation to the human predicament on planet Earth, and if this objective appears sensible to you, I would like to invite your collaboration in advancing it – along with the collaboration of any and all others with whom the project resonates.

We have seen over the course of our ten-thousand-year episode with civilization how profoundly our mythologies shape our lives, individually and globally. If we intend instead to shape our own lives, we must first shape our own mythologies, in ways to bring into manifestation the kind of world we can live in joyfully, peacefully, with unencumbered creativity.

Metaconsciousness: Mythology for a Post-Civilized World is my contribution of "an initial gob of clay thrown on the potter's wheel" toward this objective; and I invite the creative input of all with whom this project resonates to help shape it and build it into the basis for a genuinely post-civilized social pattern with which people of all races, tribes, and backgrounds can live comfortably, abundantly, joyfully, and above all at liberty – and begin the process of healing the damage we humans have wreaked upon this planet during our civilized tenure here.

I invite you to read the book, reproduce it, and share it widely – and then collaborate with me on improving it, expanding it, and broadening its appeal and interest. There are many glowing and creative people in this world who earnestly desire a solution to the global human predicament which ensnares us all, and all living things upon the Earth. Most of us, however, continue participating, in spite of ourselves, in the self-destruction we abhor; because we are all "programmed" with the cultural mythologies that have prompted the self-destruction in the first place. I am inviting you to join me in approaching this dilemma at the fundamental level of our cultural mythologies, in the hope, and with the intent, of evolving alternative mythologies which may lead to far more harmonious, and far less self-destructive patterns for human society.

Thank you for your time, attention, and your participation.

The preceding is another edition of an accumulating collection of "Dear Friends" letters addressed to subscribers to the Freedom Digital Library distribution list. To subscribe, or unsubscribe, send an e-mail stating your wish to [address obfuscated], and I will add your e-mail address to, or subtract it from, the current distribution list.

The communications you receive from me via e-mail will be brief, will not include any attachments, and will (with possible minor exceptions) merely inform subscribers that there is a new "Dear Friends" letter posted to the "Dear Friends" page; with possibly a brief description of its contents. That's about it.

Love, Peace, Joy, Now,
Harmon
