Dear Friends,
It's been a lonnnnnnnng time coming, Folks, but I finally got Metaconsciousness: Mythology for a Post-Civilized World v4.0.0 uploaded last night, and now it's "on the air" at http://harmonhouse.net/fdl/metacon/v4/metacon.html – and I think you (some of you, anyway) will agree with me that it is greatly improved over prior versions, and seems (to me, at least) to be taking on a "weight" and substantiality that I feel it somehow lacked earlier. Over the past few months I've devoted a highly focused effort at thoroughly overhauling the work, with many, many small changes, and a few larger ones, which in their aggregate I believe have a substantial effect.
I would like to draw your attention, first, to the improved table of Contents, which now give a somewhat finer-grained glimpse into what lies within, and allows easier exploration of many more sections and subsections than were listed in prior versions. Because the work is a kind of mosaic, it does not need to be read in the order of the list of Contents; so feel free to browse around, and I'm sure you'll stumble across something of interest.
The section which prompted the overhaul is titled III.1. Vision for a Future History, an entirely fictional work which heads up a new (third) volume dedicated to fictional visions of what the world may look like after the transition we are experiencing right now has run its course, and a new pattern of stability has established itself upon the Earth. Your participation is invited, any who may have had an impulse for writing science fiction, or visionary fiction. Turn your imagination loose, and let's see if among us we can't create visions for the kind of world we would actually like to live in! Such "visioneering" can be a lot of fun; and it has the "serious purpose" of fulfilling the first step in bringing such visions into reality. Does anybody remember that song in the musical movie, South Pacific, with a lyric something like,
You gotta have a dream,
If you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream
Come true?
Something like that. That's the idea, anyway; let's build a beautiful dream – and then bring it into reality!
Speaking of which, I would also like to draw your attention to I.4. Metaconsciousness Among the Quantum Fields, which has been almost entirely rewritten, and tightened up considerably, in relation to prior versions. My guess is that most people don't bother to factor in quantum effects when interpreting every-day sense impressions of what we casually like to call "reality." Section I.4 explains why this may be an error, leading to distorted perceptions of what real reality may really be "like." Quantum effects are individually unimaginably minute, which makes them easy to ignore for those of us who seem to experience things at the macro scale of people, animals, houses, mountains, trees, etc. Yet the fabric of all that stuff is "made out of" a seething foam of quantum turmoil and extraordinarily surprising interactions. Looking into the quantum world can produce some unexpected re-evaluations of what this word "reality" may actually mean.
Well, enough hype, yes? V4.0.0 is "on the air," and I hope you find something of interest in it. I sure have, writing it, and there's more in the pipeline. Stay tuned.
