Prospects for Change:
Good News, and Bad News*

Simply walking away from civilization is a heck of a lot easier said than done, isn't it? Surely, stepping literally into the wilderness and subsisting on nuts and berries, the way Leavers used to do,1 is not a viable option for very many of us anymore, and if matters reach the point on this planet where that is absolutely the only way to survive, a great many of us, if not all of us, will simply perish.

What, then, are the prospects for change? What's the outlook for any who may not want to accept "the deal" offered by Taker culture, who want a "better deal" instead? In a word, I would say, "mixed." It's too close to call, and "the outlook isn't brilliant." On the other hand, "The game isn't over 'till it's over." We're still standing, we're not dead yet, so don't write us off until we are.

Well, as in many instances in "real life," "I've got good news, and I've got bad news." Which do you want to hear first?
