Dear Friends,

What follows is "Part V" of the continuing "New Beginnings" series. The "Table of Contents," so far, of this particular sequence runs like this:

  • "New Beginnings, Part I," vol. IV #1, 12/8/00: an introductory "thumbnail sketch" of one man's idea of a "new paradigm" world;

  • "New Beginnings, Part II," vol. IV #2, 12/18/00: a discussion of possible approaches to "new paradigm" learning, as opposed to "old paradigm" education;

  • "New Beginnings, Part III," vol. IV #4, 1/1/01: speculations about technological developments in a "new paradigm" civilization;

  • "New Beginnings, Part IV," vol. IV #6, 2/14/01: a consideration of human relationships in a "new paradigm" civilization;

  • "New Beginnings, Part V," vol. IV #10, which follows directly: a penetrating look at the Hierarchy, in the context of disclosures discussed in the "WingMakers, Revisited" series.

[Continued from "New Beginnings, Part IV"]

Although what follows draws heavily upon the recent "WingMakers, Revisited" series,1 it is really a continuation of the "New Beginnings" series, in further elaboration of the matter of Owning One's Self. In particular, what follows examins the Hierarchy, and our relationship to them, and their relationship to Source Reality. I might also mention that certain terms found in the WingMakers' lexicon are likely to find their way into this and subsequent discourses, not because I wish to promote the growth of a "new religion" centered on the "WingMakers Myth," but simply because I find such terms so apt and illuminating that I cannot resist adopting some of them myself. They are clearly defined, and so provide a common vocabulary we can access with confidence of something at least approximating a "common understanding."

"Hierarchy" is a case in point. In earlier editions of The New Paradigm I have used at different times a variety of terms denoting this overarching concept; such as "priesthood," "aristocracy," "authorities," "government," "law," etc. In such discussions these terms have most often been used within the context of human affairs on planet Earth, over the course of approximately the past 24 centuries. The WingMakers' term "Hierarchy" includes all that, and extends it "throughout the cosmos to the very borders of discovery;" and it "encompasses all things outside of Source Reality."2 [My emphasis.] This broadens the concept significantly, but requires no change in the basic assessment repeatedly expressed in these pages.

That is, in evaluating the Hierarchy's function in Earthly affairs I have found no basis for "legitimacy," aside from popular somnambulant acquiescence, supplemented by superior strength and the threat of overwhelming physical force, which is no legitimacy whatever; and the WingMakers have affirmed that in relation to First Source and Source Reality the Hierarchy have no legitimacy either.

Well... let me rephrase that. Everything has a kind of legitimacy in relation to First Source. The legitimacy of the Hierarchy, as discussed at some length in "WingMakers, Revisited, Part III," is

to draw us - who are really shattered fragments of First Source, who fully share Its power and identity - into such labyrinths of confusion and disorientation that we utterly (almost) lose track of our inherent identity with First Source, and connection to Source Reality; and in compensation - possibly out of sheer desperation - we develop the unique perspectives that enable us to deliver "the precious cargo that the entity was designed to transmit to First Source."3

In contemporary and historical Earthly affairs, the entire foundation for the Hierarchy has been, in effect, "might makes right," or "he who has the gold makes the rules:" no more, no less, no other. In the context of a cosmology of Unity, as elaborated by the WingMakers, and as intuitively apprehended by myself and many others, this is no foundation whatsoever. In a cosmology in which every "thing" is an indivisible "part" of the One, of the Whole, what is the foundation for "priority" of any "thing" "over" any other "thing?" In such a cosmology there simply is no such foundation. That is, a single photon is no less significant than a galactic cluster; a horsefly is no less significant than a horse; a man is no less (or more) significant than a woman; a cobbler, or a chimney sweep, or an infant is no less significant than a king, or a prime minister, or a bank president.

These are statements which, in the context of historical and contemporary human culture, are likely to appear at first glance highly "counterintuitive," and not at all easy to assimilate. On the contrary, upon more penetrating examination, they will be found to be entirely intuitive, and unavoidably rational - in the context of a cosmology of Unity. Unless such a cosmology is false, these and parallel statements are as true as any that can be made in a symbolic language. "All are One," puts it in a nutshell. If this is not true for you, at least potentially, I predict you will have no interest in anything that follows.

In sum, the Hierarchy have no functional purpose in human society, other than as an "obstacle course" placed in our path deliberately to exercise our unique creativity in forming unique perspectives that constitute "the precious cargo that the entity was designed to transmit to First Source." Once we have seen this, presumably the Hierarchy have fulfilled their entire purpose for us, and have no further place in our lives. Yes? Then what? If this is so, and you see it so, how will you deal with representatives of the Hierarchy next time you receive, say, a notice "requiring" you to pay your "income tax?"

Ah. Here, perhaps, is where some of that unique creativity comes in. There is no "formula answer" to this and parallel situations - unless it is the very general one, as suggested repeatedly throughout The New Paradigm, viz.: Become Sovereign; Own Yourself; internally at first, then it will manifest naturally, externally.

"So how do I do that?" one may ask. Because you already are Sovereign, this too is a question no one "else" can answer for you. To do so would be to trespass upon your already secured inherent Cosmic Sovereignty. However, perhaps I will not be doing too great a violence to your Sovereignty if I suggest that consciously realizing it is a good first step. This is simply based upon my own personal experience. There is evidently quite a significant "learning curve" to surmount in the process of realizing and exercising one's Sovereignty, for those of us who have lived and thought like "masters" and "slaves" here for the past several thousand years. These writings are my own footprints along this path, which I share with others who may find them in any way useful. I have never pretended, however, that what I write is a formula for "how it's done" for anyone else.

In any case, if you have struggled with these issues, I imagine I've gone through all or most of the stages you have, in the process of seeing through the false "authority" of the Hierarchy: blind acceptance; obscure intimations that "all is not well" with the Hierarchy; discovery of their blatant disconnect from what's so; outrage, anger, fear, frustration, resistance; the conceptual recognition that fear, anger, and resistance, are not useful remedies to the discontinuity with what's so effected by the Hierarchy - yet feeling them anyway.

Throughout this process I have felt extremely isolated and alone, because practically every bit of information I have received, filtered through other minds, even others who share my quest for Sovereignty, has been so slanted as to confirm, not deny the fundamental validity of the Hierarchy. Yet my own investigations have pushed me, inexorably as a moving glacier, to the perception that the Hierarchy has no validity whatsoever. The WingMakers are the first source I have encountered anywhere that have given me confirmation of this perception. It's like finding an oasis in a desert!

And yet, if my perception is accurate, surely this is not because the WingMakers' cosmology confirms it. They're saying so does not make it so, any more than my saying so does. I am keenly sensitive to the hazard that a "WingMakers Cult" might emerge and take its place, ironically, within the structure of the Hierarchy. "Oh boy, another Gospel! We finally have The True Word!" That is why I profoundly respect James's care in hiding his identity and obscuring his origin and nature, and even blurring the edges of the stories he tells, or conveys,4 requiring individual discernment in relation to them, rather than reliance upon Hierarchical "authority." There is no such "authority" - about anything - and it's time (at least for me) this is understood.

And so, if not fear, anger, and resistance, what is or are appropriate and effective responses to the presence of the Hierarchy? At the moment, I'm trying this on for size:

When one challenges oneself, say, in the mountains, it is possible to do so with many alternative "sets of mind." One can imagine oneself "conquering a formidable foe," or "battling the elements," such as blizzards, avalanches, ice falls, crumbling rock, hidden crevasses, etc. Alternatively, one may be struck with awe at the majesty and beauty of the high country. One can love the mountains, without being oblivious to their inherent hazards. In another variation, one may traverse difficult, treacherous, mountainous terrain as a means to an end, in pursuance of a goal to reach the lush valleys, coasts, and harbors beyond the high passes; yet not view the hazards and discomforts of the high country with "fear and loathing."

Similarly, on the basis of insights provided by the WingMakers, it occurs to me that the Hierarchy can be seen as such an obstacle to one's progress toward "higher consciousness:" neither as an enemy nor as a place one wishes to reside forever, but as a source of challenge and obstruction with its own kind of interest, if not beauty. By cultivating such a state of mind, it strikes me that one can endure the hardships of the journey with good humor and optimism, even in the face of (relative) calamities - as one might do in the event of falling into a stream one is endeavoring to cross. It may make you mad as a wet hen, at the moment, and require taking an unscheduled camping stop to build a fire and dry your gear; after which the journey continues.

And, the journey does continue, and ultimately, reaches its goal. You climb down, at length, out of the snow and frozen rock, and walk on the good earth of lush valleys, and along the warm beaches on the coast; where, sooner or later, you're sure to launch yet another adventure into the challenging Unknown.

For me, this metaphor occurs in the context of the WingMakers' idea that, in order to achieve a unique perspective, each of us must pass through a course of separation from First Source - which is always wrenching and fraught with spiritual discomfort: because it's not so. In order to experience "yet another adventure into the challenging Unknown," we have to be Unknown ourselves, and Unknowable, because we are unique, like First Source. So we have made the choice to orbit into the farthest frontiers of "outer darkness," so that we can experience "separation," and return transformed. If each of us is not here by choice, then all of this is strictly out the window, and you may as well read no further. Otherwise, however, during our "separation" from First Source, which is always illusory, because impossible, the Hierarchy has served as our "home-made" substitute for First Source. It's something like the Golden Calf the Hebrews molded in the wilderness while Moses was on the mountain conversing with God. Its ultimate purpose is to be seen through, so we can finally return to First Source as equals, instead of fragments: as the One We have always been.

As to all the pain and cruelty, etc., what do you expect from a population of Sons and Daughters of First Source who have completely forgotten Who they / we are, and Where they / we came from? That's how people behave when they / we have lost track of First Source. That's what they / we came here to experience - so we can return as unique Beings, not as simple holographic, cookie-cutter duplicates of First Source, "chips off the old Block." Our purpose is to return as entirely "New Blocks," uniquely forged and tempered in the furnace of "incarnation on planet Earth."

When a mountaineer falls into a crevasse, and breaks his leg, and barely manages to haul himself out and get down to Base Camp alive, with frostbitten fingers and toes, he can complain of the pain and cruelty of the mountain if he likes; but then what was he doing up there in the first place? That's what he hiked up there for, isn't it? the challenge, the experience of the apparently "real" possibility he may have an accident? He may not even get down to the bottom of the mountain again for a hundred years or so, until his corpse rolls out of the toe of the glacier. That's all part of the game, though, isn't it, of the challenge, of the adventure? And it is a game, a theatrical drama - because the "mountaineer" is not the bundle of skin and broken bones found scattered among the detritus of the terminal moraine, but is the eternal and inviolable Son or Daughter of First Source.

So maybe planet Earth has been the "Mount Everest," or the "K2" of Cosmos: the deepest, darkest, remotest outpost from the Light of First Source that can be found anywhere; and only the most courageous, determined, adventurous seekers of genuinely unique, Sovereign parity with First Source ever venture here to face the astounding challenges that can be found nowhere else. In that case, all those so-called "minions of the Hierarchy" toward whom you or I may have been so resentful, are here for exactly the same reason we are: finally, to advance spiritually to the first rank of Sovereign Cosmic Beings. And they can do it, too, just as you and I can do it; because each One of Us is, before anything else, a Daughter or Son of First Source, and that is something that can be forgotten, but never changed.

Ultimately, there is no Hierarchy; there is only Sovereign Self and First Source, a grand total of One. Of course, there are many Sovereign Individuals who do not recognize their own Sovereignty, and mistakenly believe there is a Hierarchy, and that they are part of it, separate from First Source. It isn't so, and any One can have this realization at any time, just as Dr. Jamisson Neruda had, at least in part, when he walked away from the Labyrinth Group.5

It occurs to me that the Hierarchy can serve as a kind of "inverse litmus test" for one's (my) relationship with First Source, viz.: The extent to which one is "attuned" to the Hierarchy is proportional to the extent to which one is "detuned" from Source Intelligence. Similarly, the extent to which one is scrambling around on glacier-clad rock is the extent to which one is not residing in the lush alluvial valley at the delta. Neither of these are value judgements. It may be one finds oneself not significantly more comfortable in the delta bottomlands than one is while struggling not to be blown off the summit of a peak. One may find one's "comfort zone," say, nestled among the foothills, in a temperate, steep-sided valley well below the forbidding summits swathed in perpetual snow and ice, with sweeping views of the coastal plane below. Or, one may prefer the life of a vagabond, at one time combing the beach, at another trekking in the highlands.

The key point, in my scale of values, is to reside where one resides, and to do what one does, and to go where one goes, for one's own unique reasons, not for reasons dictated by the Hierarchy. Unless one elects otherwise. There may be elements of the Hierarchy one finds useful or appealing; but to me, no element of the Hierarchy has value if one is denied the possibility of opting out of it at any time.

Ultimately, the possibility of opting out cannot be denied; but it may be discouraged in varied and subtle ways; so one may wish to review some of the means by which the Hierarchy maintains the loyalty, or the acquiescence of their "constituents." More to the point, however, would be an examination of the ways in which "I" remain loyal to, or compliant with the agendas of the Hierarchy; the sum of which add up to disconnection from Source Reality,6 Source Intelligence,7 and First Source.

What it comes to in the end is, the Hierarchy operates by default. That is, in the absence of "a will of one's own," the Hierarchy supplies the will, the impetus, the motivation, and the direction for human action, by whatever means are left available to them by default of the Sovereign Individual. The "laws" of the Hierarchy have "jurisdiction" over those who do not exercise jurisdiction over themselves. The Hierarchy "governs" those who do not govern themselves; "serves" those who do not serve themselves; "guides" those who do not guide themselves; "teaches" those who do not pursue their own learning; raises the children of those who do not raise their own children; entertains those too bored and disinterested to entertain themselves; fills the minds of those without the initiative to occupy their own minds; manages the "health" of those who do not look after themselves; ...and on and on and on. In sum, the Hierarchy fills the vacuum left vacant by default of the Sovereign Individual's failure to exercise shim's own Sovereignty. The Hierarchy's primary mechanism for doing all this on the massive scale they do is the Genetic Mind,8 which corresponds in the WingMakers' lexicon approximately to what I have been calling the "old paradigm" of "fight / flight," "us vs. them," "survival of the fittest," "let the devil take the hindmost." In a word, fear, as opposed to love.

Since fear is the motivating mechanism through which the Hierarchy operates, you may rely upon it that fear is also the motivation of the Hierarchy. Consequently, if we equate "good" in any way with love, no "good" can be expected to come your way or mine from the Hierarchy. There is an English proverb that sums it up quite well: "In a thousand pounds of law is not an ounce of love." Or as David Frost and Anthony Jay had it, "This is what has to be remembered about the law: Beneath that cold, harsh, impersonal exterior there beats a cold, harsh, impersonal heart."9

Okay, fine. Then the "solution" to the "problems" with the Hierarchy must not spring from a motivation of fear, but of love. We waste our time and our energy, for instance, by opposing the Hierarchy; fomenting revolutions, etc. That's strictly "old paradigm," or the impulse of the existing Genetic Mind. What's wanted instead, it seems to me, is development of the capacity for love; which I submit springs first from appreciation of one's own Sovereign Self.

Do you have even a fractional appreciation of your own Cosmic significance? Have you reflected lately on how marvelous, miraculous, and jaw-dropping astounding it is that you are able to reflect upon anything? If you look up in wonder and awe at the vast panoply of stars on a clear night, and contemplate where it all came from, the same wonder and awe applies no less to yourself. Where did you come from? Is it not an utterly astonishing piece of work that, here you are, in the midst of all this? You walk, you talk, you breathe, you see, you think, you feel, you evaluate circumstances, other people, and things, and make decisions, and act upon them. How does that come about? Is it not wondrous strange? Is it any less mysterious than the presence before you of the entire universe?

Yet the Hierarchy "teaches" that you are "only human." "Only Human??!!" That's like yawning and saying, "It's only the universe, ho hum." Reminds me of the tourists from the Midwest standing on the beach, beholding the Pacific Ocean for the first time. One turns and says to the other, "I'm disappointed. I thought it would be bigger than this."

This takes some contemplation. Introspection. If I may make a suggestion, why don't you take a few moments, now and again, and just contemplate what an astounding piece of work you are? Then, once you've got somewhat of a grip on that idea, extend it to others: they are no less astounding than you are, just for being here. Anyone; everyone. If you can find within you something to love - never mind your "blemishes" and "warts" - something you feel good about, something you're genuinely, deservedly proud of, regardless what it may or may not mean to anyone else, you have at least taken a preliminary step toward an appropriate self-appreciation; which leads in turn to an appropriate appreciation of others.

Everyone has a precious jewel hidden within them / you / me / us. Maybe it's rough and unpolished; maybe it hasn't even been discovered yet; but it's there. In everyone. If you can find your jewel, and start to work on it, bring out its luster, expose its hidden lights; then you will know everyone has such a jewel. You can love, honor, and respect yourself for the jewel within you, and love, honor, and respect all others for the jewels they carry, whether polished, or discovered, or not.

This you can do, simply because you decide to. In other words, you are Sovereign. You decide whether to love or fear; whether to credit yourself, or not, with the appreciation you deserve; whether to credit others, or not, with the appreciation they deserve. Practice expanding your own self-appreciation, and extending it to others as well, because it applies to them no less than to you, and you will find yourself moving toward realization of the Sovereign Integral.10

Finally, and probably most superficially, but important nevertheless perhaps, because you may want to do something to move in the direction of the Sovereign Integral: disengage the Hierarchy from your personal life. If you want to. If you're interested. Remember, I'm not telling you what to do, or urging you to do anything. You're the Sovereign. You decide what you will and will not do. I'm just sharing what I see, and as I see it, the Hierarchy operates in all instances according to the formula,

human instrument + Hierarchy = God connection through saviorship.11

The Hierarchy, in other words, place themselves as the "gatekeepers" to God, and to everything else that can possibly be fenced off and "regulated." If possible, the Hierarchy would fence off the air we breathe, and establish a "license" of some sort for access to it. Whatever you want to have, wherever you want to go, whatever you want to do, is accessible to you through a "gateway" set up by the Hierarchy. The major "gateway" to most things most people desire and strive for in life is the artificial mechanism of money. If you have enough of it, there isn't much you can't have or do with the Hierarchy's blessing. If you're short of it, there isn't much you can have or do, with the Hierarchy's blessing. "All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me." [Matthew 4:9]

So-o-o-o... you can play that game if you want to. However, if you happen to know that you don't have to go through the Hierarchy's "gateways" to access God, or First Source, or anything else, because that is ultimately Who You Are already.... It's a whole new ballgame. You can go around, the gateways; over, under, or through the fences set up by the Hierarchy. They do not apply to you, unless you agree, by intent or default, that they do. This may not be very easily done right now, because the vast "mass" of individuals are still asleep, and in thrall to the Hierarchy. But in some ways it's a whole lot easier to do now than it ever has been before. I mean, can you imagine something like this even being written a hundred or two hundred years ago?

For instance, you can minimize your use of money by conducting more of your commerce by barter or trade. "You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours." With some initiative, resource, and sagacity, a network of like-minded individuals can set up their own trading cooperative; and by means of the digital encryption tools discussed in "WingMakers, Revisited, Part IV," can even set up their own private digital currency to facilitate trade, and not use the Hierarchy's currency at all, at least amongst themselves.

Less "radically," perhaps, do you watch television? If so, why? Do you regularly read a newspaper? Do you send your children to school? Do you vote? Why? Do you rely upon the medical / pharmaseutical / insurance hierarchy for maintenance of your good health? Why? Where do you get the food you eat; the water you drink? If you are in business and employ help, to what extent do you rely upon the credentials of those who have passed through the educational hierarchy in evaluating the qualifications of prospective assistants? In general, in the exercise of your daily life, do you go through the "Chutes and Ladders" engineered by the Hierarchy, or do you seek "off the beaten track" alternative routes to your goals and objectives?

There are no "right" or "wrong" answers to any of these questions, of course, and certainly you don't have to answer to me, or to anyone else. Moreover, no doubt about it, you will find the "Chutes and Ladders" option incomparably "easier going" than any alternatives you may come up with. For awhile, anyway. That's how they were designed. Even this, however, is swiftly changing. As I am writing this I am receiving e-mail alarm notifications of "impending regulations," which allegedly take effect today (Saturday, 14 April 2001) and

  • Give dozens of government agencies and thousands of bureaucrats access to your medical records -- including the private notes of a psychotherapist -- without your consent.

  • Assign every American a "unique patient identifier," whether you want one or not, by working in conjunction with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The number would be similar to a Social Security number for medical transactions -- and would make accessing an individual's medical records as easy as running a credit check.

  • Permit police agencies to access medical records without a search warrant.

  • Let government agencies share your records with marketing companies. The rules specifically allow pharmacies to share prescription records "for the purpose of marketing health-related products and services" without your consent.12

If you don't have any medical records, of course, this won't be a problem for you. See, you don't have to get upset, or "go to war" over this, with anyone. You can just opt out. Easier said than done, I agree; but then, the alternative is to opt in, which in most cases you will have already done, by default. So where will that path take you, in say, the next ten years? I have my ideas about this, of course, but why should you listen to me? Check it out for yourself. If you want to.

Meanwhile (if you do decide to "listen to me"), Appreciate Your Self. Love Your Self. Own Your Self. Believe me, You deserve it! And it follows as effortlessly as falling rain, You will gain the capacity for love and appreciation of "others" that is the single appropriate key to a "new paradigm" civilization - something never before been seen on this planet.

Love & Light,
Harmon
