Dear Friends,

I hope you will forgive me for the relatively prolonged pause between the latest edition of The New Paradigm (5/1/01) and this one. In part, I have been preoccupied with a project to make the WingMakers' Text Files more readily accessible to a wider audience, along the lines suggested in 3. Constructive Recommendations, "WingMakers, Revisited, Part IV" [vol. IV #9, 3/31/01]. In particular, with the support and assistance of Mark Hempel, WingMakers' Webmaster, I am in the ongoing process of rendering First Source and other .PDF format WingMakers files into simple HTML format for free global accessibility to anyone with a browser and Internet access. This work in progress is now available in the Free Digital Library at www.freedigitallibrary.net/wm/, and will be added to and expanded as time permits, and as new information becomes available. I have had occasion to reference two of these files in the ensuing essay,5, 10 and will be "retrofitting" prior essays in the "WingMakers, Revisited" series – again as time permits – with links to available WingMakers' Text Files cited in various footnotes.

Additionally, I must confess to having had a certain amount of difficulty getting the current edition out the door to you. You see, I felt an urge to write about "Creating Reality," which I believe all of us do, consciously or unconsciously, every moment of every day. My "problem" was – or is – I do not feel myself particularly adept at creating reality to my entire satisfaction, and so I have certain doubts about my qualification to write about it. On the other hand, if I were to limit myself strictly to writing on topics upon which I am qualified to write, on the basis of anyone else's evaluation, you may never hear from me again. In the event, I enlisted the assistance of Gary Zukav, and was able to draw sufficient inspiration from his highly illuminating book, The Seat of the Soul, that I managed to put something down which I hope some of you may find useful. As always, your feedback is welcome; your discernment, required.

A friend of mine and I got ourselves into a discussion recently on some of the difficulties we frequently encounter while attempting to achieve a graceful balance in relation to elements we would like to attract into our lives, as opposed to those we would prefer to repel. These kinds of dilemmas have become particularly acute, at least for me, with the dawning awareness that we really do create our own "reality" every moment, and our "outer" experience is an accurate reflection of the dynamic flux in continuous progress in the world "within."

This is a theme that has made its appearance in these pages before, and if it is not particularly flattering to one's self-esteem, at least it bears the compensating advantage of offering a means of changing any elements in our world which we do not find entirely pleasing. Which sounds very fine indeed, maybe, in theory; but how the dickens does one put it into practice? How does one actually go about changing "external reality" by "changing one's mind," as implied by the idea that we ourselves are the creators of the "reality" we experience?

In alternate phases, a vase is seen between faces.A very simple example of doing just exactly that would be one of those pictures we've all seen which constantly change shape, seemingly, depending upon how we look at it. In this instance, in alternate phases, a vase is seen between faces.

During the first decades of the 20th century, the Quantum Mechanics1 encountered analogous phenomena at an entirely different scale, for instance when they began to discover the mutually exclusive "quantum" and "wave" properties of quantum events. Light, electrons, etc. were observed to behave like particles, or like waves, depending upon the experimental circumstances under which they were observed; yet never as both particles and waves at the same time. The nature of their "reality," in other words, is determined by the subjective choice of the experimenter observing them, not by any supposed "objective criteria" defining what they are.

Deep introspection and observation disclose that these are not, as they may at first appear, isolated, idiosyncratic peculiarities of an otherwise "well-ordered" Nature, but are fundamental to Nature itself. That is, contrary to everything we have been "taught" in our "old paradigm schools," we really do create our own "reality" every moment, by what we think, feel, say, and do in our moment-to-moment daily lives. Like it or not, we really are "Lords of Creation," and once we have awakened to this conceptually, our next step(s) must be to learn how to wield our heretofore unrealized powers effectively, and to our highest advantage, rather than to our mutual destruction or distress. Don't you think so? So it seems to me.

There are a number of elements to this that may be considered separately, but in order to effect an actual practice that "works," must ultimately be combined in a seamless overarching comprehension. I'll list the major elements that occur to me – with the understanding that there may be others of no less importance than these.

  • All are One. This means, among a great deal else, that all concepts and patterns of thought, feeling, and emotion that distinguish between "this" and "that," "me" and "you," "us" and "them," etc. are subjective evaluations, not "objective facts;" are relative, not absolute.

  • Time and space are relative. The only "absolute time" is "now;" the only "absolute space" is "here;" both are infinite in extent, and boundless.

  • Experience is relative and subjective. It takes place "in here," not "out there," and consists of the combined total of every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day. Consciously or unconsciously, each of us is constantly creating our "reality," and experiencing what we create.

  • Existence is asymmetrical and has no opposite. The sum total of "All That Is" is a "net positive" with no countervailing "negative" to "balance" "It." If this were not so, then every "positive" would stack up against a corresponding "negative" of equal "weight," and the net sum of "All That Is" would be zero – and no one would be "here" to discuss it, nor would there be anything to discuss. Since this is manifestly not so,...

  • "Things As They Are," in their Absolute and Infinite Totality, constitute the ultimate and archetypical definition of "The Good;" opposed to which, there is no opposite.

  • "Good" and "Evil" are therefore subjective evaluations, not "objective facts;" are relative, not absolute; occur only in the context of the partial, not of the Totality of "All That Is."

These, it seems to me, are the fundamental issues, or the kinds of issues, that enter into an effective practice of creating a reality in which it is possible to live in harmony with "All That Is;" which is to say, with "The Good." By the examples of human history and personal experience, it is obviously possible to create, at least temporarily, "realities" not in harmony with "All That Is;" or rather, not in intentional synchrony with "All That Is." However, such "realities" are inevitably self-negating, self-destructive, self-devouring, and consequently of relatively short duration and mounting discomfort. What's wanted instead – or at least what I want – is a "reality" not plagued by what I evaluate as these "serious disadvantages." The "sixty-four-dollar question" is, How do I create, consciously and deliberately, the "reality" of my dreams, desires, and inmost longing; and how do I exclude from my "reality" the "serious disadvantages" mentioned above?

Note that, to my way of thinking, one seeks a "reality" in harmony with "All That Is," or with "The Good," not because that is what one "should" do, or what one "ought" to do, in conformance with a "moral precept." There are no "shoulds," "oughts," or "moral precepts" in the "reality" I seek. Rather, one seeks a "reality" in harmony with "All That Is," or with "The Good," because that is the only possible way of achieving an experience of comfort, liberty, love, creativity, satisfaction, and joy. In the largest sense, pure "self-interest," when fully understood, guides one unerringly into "the greatest good for All That Is," and nowhere else; and since "I" am ultimately One with "All That Is," "the greatest good for All That Is" is inevitably the greatest good for "me."

The idea that we create our own "reality" is of course not original with me, and I'm sure many of us have encountered much before this about "positive thinking," "thoughts are things," "what you resist persists," etc. Speaking strictly for myself, however, so thoroughly immersed have I been in habitual patterns based upon the illusion that experience is something that "happens to me," instead of something I create, that I have struggled mightily with the challenge of keeping the general stream of self-talk in a consistently positive vein. Know what I mean? It's fine to remind yourself from time to time to "think positive;" but what about your overall habits of thought, feeling, emotion, etc.?

For me, when I take stock of the vast river of internal contents in constant parade past the vantage point of my conscious awareness, I am forced to admit that I may have been "shooting myself in the foot" with a great deal of consistency, excepting those relatively rare occasions when I have explicitly reminded myself not to. And so, if that is indeed the "stuff" of which my "reality" is made, it is no surprise, really, to find my experience to have been less than "thoroughly satisfactory." Habits, particularly of "every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day," are not easily changed, and certainly not by just "thinking about it" from time to time. There may be no "easy shortcuts" to a satisfactory transition from "what has been" to "the world of our dreams." Clearly, each of us must manage our own individual learning curve as best we can, given what we are, and where we have been.

Something came my way recently which addresses the issue of attracting into our experience what we desire, and repelling what we desire not. It was a "channeled message," and represented these as the action of two "Universal Laws:" the "Law of Attraction," and the "Law of Repulsion." I'll not quote the message directly, but paraphrase my understanding of it, in relation to the vital elements listed above.

The Laws of Attraction and Repulsion are said to be universally applicable, and in operation at all times; therefore they may yield unintended results for those who activate them without awareness. The result can be the repulsion of what is desired, and the attraction of what is desired not – a fair description, maybe, of much of "what has been."

The Laws of Attraction and Repulsion are invoked by "every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day;" and since these are the "stuff" of experience, which takes place "in here," not "out there," the "reality" we experience may be chaotic and rough, unless we develop a methodical intent to the pattern of our thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc.

The analogy was drawn to a handful of pebbles cast into a pond. Each pebble launches a series of waves, which expand in rings across the surface of the pond, and intersect and interact with the expanding waves of other pebbles. Every wave eventually reaches the farthest margin of the pond, and is reflected back and returns whence it came, bearing the experience invoked by Universal Law. That is, depending upon the Universal Law activated by the thought, feeling, emotion, etc. – the "pebble" – what is desired or abhorred is either attracted or repelled, hastened or delayed.

Because time and space are relative, and the only "absolute time" is "now," the only "absolute space" is "here," thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. which operate in the "here and now" activate the Law of Attraction; and those which operate in the "past" or "future" (i.e. "not now") activate the Law of Repulsion. So if our thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. are focused upon what we want, what we need, what we wish for, but do not have right now, we are unconsciously activating the Law of Repulsion, because we are sending energy out into the universe that affirms "not now" for all these things. And that is exactly what the universe manifests for us, now.

Similarly, or conversely, if we focus our energy into the present, and register gratitude for the abundance, love, freedom, prosperity, and all desirable things in our life right now, for one thing, we will not be saying anything that is not so, for there is no other "time" than right now, ever; and for another, we are activating the Law of Attraction now to bring all these desirable things into our actual manifest experience. It's very simple, really, and very powerful. And because it is powerful, it is important to wield these Universal Laws consciously and intentionally; otherwise they are likely to bring to us unintended and undesired experiences.

So we have the Laws of Attraction and Repulsion. Important as these are, however, they are not the only relevant factors in the process of "creating reality" to our satisfaction. Gary Zukav has a great deal of pertinence to say about this, and I recommend his books, particularly The Seat of the Soul,2 without reservation.

Gary, like the WingMakers, affirms that we are all embarked upon a soul journey toward what he calls "authentic empowerment."

"When the energy of the soul is recognized, acknowledged, and valued, it begins to infuse the life of the personality. When the personality comes fully to serve the energy of its soul, that is authentic empowerment. This is the goal of the evolutionary process in which we are involved and the reason for our being. Every experience that you have and will have upon the Earth encourages the alignment of your personality with your soul. Every circumstance and situation gives you the opportunity to choose this path, to allow your soul to shine through you, to bring into the physical world through you its unending and unfathomable reverence for and love of Life."3

Gary's concept of authentic empowerment, or authentic power, very much appeals to me. It corresponds closely to what I have been calling Sovereignty, yet carries a gentler, non-confrontational "vibe" about it, and I may adopt it in preference to the somewhat more "pointed" term I have been using until now. He observes repeatedly that all evolutionary paths lead ultimately to authentic empowerment, but that some paths are more swift and direct than others.

"Unconscious evolution through the density of physical matter, through the experiences that are created unconsciously by unconscious intentions, has been the way of our species to now. This is the unconscious road to authentic empowerment.

"Conscious evolution through responsible choice is the accelerated way of evolution of the multisensory personality, and the five-sensory personality that is becoming multisensory. Responsible choice is the conscious road to authentic empowerment."4

The cleavage of primary importance, in this view, is that between the personality and the soul, or what the WingMakers distinguish respectively as the human instrument and the entity.5

The first necessary realization, which we have discussed in these pages in the past, is that what you are (eternally) is soul; what you have (temporarily) is personality. That is, you are not, as is frequently the default presumption in the (unconscious) three-dimensional world, a "body" which incidentally "has" a "spirit." You are spirit; soul; entity; eternal; invulnerable; unblemished; perfect; intentional creation, and One with "God," or First Source of "All That Is." To understand this, own it, fulfill it, with "every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day," is what is meant by authentic power.

Authentic power stands in distinction to the illusory "power" that unconscious personalities strive to gain and maintain over other personalities, on the basis of, and by means of, doubt and fear. The latter is what Gary Zukav describes as "the unconscious road to authentic empowerment." It is slower, not as much fun, but no less sure, ultimately, than the "conscious road."

Similarly, the WingMakers write that "Every impulse of every electron is correlated to the whole of the universe in its eternal ascent Godward. There is no other direction we can go."6 Because, of course, there is no other Source from which we all, man and mouse, galaxy and electron, "us" and "them," have come. There is but one circle, and it has "already" closed upon itself, Alpha and Omega, "right here, right now."

So how, if at all, does this help with the "nuts and bolts" of "creating the reality" of your dreams?

In a general way, it affirms that, whatever your path, conscious or unconscious, your eventual destiny is assured. You are a soul of limitless potential and authentic power, "right here, right now." Further, if you intend to bring this reality into your conscious experience, "right here, right now," you choose the path of responsible choice in preference to that of unconscious evolution.

Responsible choice means cultivating the habit of paying attention to "every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day." This is not necessarily very easily done. Gary Zukav devotes considerable attention to the obstructions to conscious evolution encountered by the splintered personality.

A splintered personality is one with contradictory intentions, not all of which are necessarily conscious. It may be your conscious intent, for instance, to "focus your energy into the present, and register gratitude for the abundance, love, freedom, prosperity, and all desirable things in your life right now," thereby activating the Law of Attraction. There may be other factors to your personality, however, of which you may not be consciously aware, which for various reasons fear abundance, love, freedom, or prosperity, and consequently broadcast not now intentions at cross purposes to your conscious intent; thereby activating the Law of Repulsion, and self-sabotaging your conscious agenda. Gary writes that it is the strongest intention, whether conscious or unconscious, that prevails, or probably more frequently, "dilutes" our conscious intent, with contrary, chaotic results.

These observations may go a long way toward explaining the perplexing and frustrating circumstance of repeatedly repelling what we desire, and attracting what we desire not into our experience. This means we are not yet entirely conscious; there are hidden splinters to our personality, bound by fear, with which we have not yet come to terms and consciously discharged.

This may sound a bit tough. There may be issues in your life with which you do not want to deal right now. They may be too sensitive, or too frightening, or too confusing, and you may just want to keep them on a "back burner" and not deal with them. Very well. That is a decision for the unconscious road to authentic empowerment, and it will take you to your destiny just as surely as its alternative. In fact, this has been the choice of virtually the entire human race throughout our entire tenure on this planet; so you will have plenty of company. You may as well expect, however, your experience of conflicting, chaotic, "mixed results" to continue more or less unchanged, for these are the natural results of unconscious intentions.

Alternatively, of course, you may instead choose to pursue the path of conscious evolution through responsible choice. This is a process, isn't accomplished all at once, and begins with the simple decision to do so. It means persistently, consciously examining "every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day;" which is a habit one cultivates over "time." You don't have to "beat yourself up" over elements you overlook, or that escape your notice. Don't worry, it'll come around again, whatever it was, and you can take another shot at it: the angry word that escaped your lips in the heat of the moment; the self-defeating thought you released into the ethers that activated the Law of Repulsion in relation to something you wish to attract. Like everything, it takes practice. Be easy on yourself. The fact is, by your simple decision, "right here, right now," you have embarked upon the accelerated path to authentic power. To stay on the path, this is a decision you must keep on making, over and over again; but every time you make it, you make it easier – not only for yourself, but for everyone who likewise elects to travel this path.

What does it mean, consciously to examine "every thought, feeling, sensation, perception, emotion, word, and deed, every moment of every day;" and what does it accomplish?

The objective of this exercise is to identify the sources of all your doubts and fears, and transmute them; for these are the obstacles you face to love, liberty, and joy. We have observed before in these pages that love and fear cannot coexist, in the same way that light and dark cannot coexist in the same time and place. The presence of one means the absence of the other. Love is empowering; fear is disempowering. Therefore, the path to authentic power is the path of love, and anything that obstructs your exercise of love is an obstacle to authentic power.

Because all experience takes place "in here," not "out there," you are in charge of the kinds of experiences you have, just as you are able to decide whether the illustration at the beginning of this essay depicts a vase, or a pair of facing profiles; just as a Quantum Mechanic is able to decide whether to detect particles or waves in a given experiment.

Therefore, if you can identify the source of your fears, and bring them forward into conscious awareness, you can disempower them, and engender authentic power within yourself. The means of bringing the source of your fears into your conscious awareness are manifold, and too numerous to address in the space remaining here. The first prerequisite is simply the intent to do it; for the rest, I think you can do worse than to read The Seat of the Soul. I'll close at this arbitrary point (for we have only scratched the surface of an enormous topic) with a few relevant quotes.

  • "Take your hands off the steering wheel. Be able to say to the Universe, 'Thy will be done,' and allow your life to go into the hands of the Universe completely. The final piece of reaching for authentic power is releasing your own to a higher form of wisdom."7

  • "When you ask for guidance and assistance, simply assume that it immediately is pouring forward. You may need to work a while to relax your mind into receptivity, or you may need to have lunch, or drive into town or do whatever it is that you need to do in order to relax your mind to hear or to feel, but live in the total assumption that the moment that you ask for guidance it is pouring in."8

  • "Relax into the present moment. Do what you need to do in the present moment. Yours is not to worry about that which we call the future. That does not mean that you do not consider the consequences of each of your choices. Taking into account the consequences of your decisions is responsible choice. It means to create strongly in the present moment. Do not lose power over the what-ifs of your life. These are unlimited and endless. Keep your power in the now, in present time. Keep your power just in the day that you are living on the Earth, and not on how to maneuver tomorrow."9

...And so on. Like I say: we haven't even scratched the surface. For a hint of the kind of possibilities that may lie "beneath the surface," particularly in the domain of "the nuts and bolts manifestation," see the part of Dr. Neruda's Second Interview,10 in which he is described as manifesting on a table, first a ball of string, and second "a loose pile of $100 bills that appear to be perfect replicas." There is no way "objectively" to verify this account decisively either as "fact" or "fiction." It resides in the realm of myth. However, who's to say that for an Individual of authentic power such feats are not, as Dr. Neruda puts it, "much easier to perform than describe"?

Love & Light,
Harmon
