Although this Incarnation was in the body from 1879 to 1950, his Presence still charges the Mount Arunachala Ashram in south India where he lived. Meditators who have visited a large number of ashrams around India say that this one of Ramana Maharshi is one of the most beautiful, heavenly, peaceful, and powerful ashrams in India for meditative experience.
Later in this document you will see a recommendation of a book, From Here to Nirvana, by Anne Cushman and Jerry Jones. In that book is a wonderful description of the Ramana Maharshi Ashram, with all the information you would need to know about it.
Ramana Maharshi gave one of the most profound and crystal clear articulations of the pure enlightened state of anyone in India’s history. He was known as the father of the Advaita wisdom - "not two" - and the path of Self inquiry. Often when asked a question, he was famous for responding, "Who wants to know?" By getting the questioner to question who is asking - who oneself really is - he created situations in which countless people were transformed.
Ramana Maharshi was the fountainhead of enlightenment that created many other blazing flames of realization. For most of his life, Ramesh Balsekar was a disciple of Ramana Maharshi. Only in the last few years before his own realization was Ramesh with Nisargadatta Maharaj. Ramana Maharshi prepared him with the foundation that resulted in his readiness for Maharaj. It was also Ramana Maharshi who was the guru of the parents of Sri Karunamayi, and many other great saints and masters in their own right.
