HarmonHouse
Original Draft, ca. 1988
1. HarmonHouse is conceived as a multi-faceted enterprise dedicated to the general purpose of serving human needs in the context of the following assumptions: 1.1. "God is" is the only statement of unimpeachable truth that may be uttered in spoken or written language. 1.2. Discovery of the full meaning of the statement, "God is," constitutes the restoration of man's original condition and wisdom. 2.3. Serving the needs of other human beings is the surest, and perhaps the only, means of achieving understanding of the statement, "God is." 2. Spiritual/physical well being is the primary purpose of Harmon- House, and includes a wide range of related interests: 2.1. Global ecology: Man's dawning perception of himself as a passenger aboard Spaceship Earth creates an urgent interest in and demand for living techniques which preserve the space- ship's finite but recylcable resources. HarmonHouse is a family enterprise, one goal of which is to test and demon- strate practical and affordable technologies that maximize the use of recyclable energy resources and minimize the pro- duction of useless waste. The Ideal objective is the demon- stration of a functional family living unit with the following properties: 2.1.1. It produces its own energy. 2.1.2. It produces its own food. 2.1.3. It recycles its own waste. 2.1.4. It enjoys a standard of living, leisure, and freedom at least comparable to that expected by middle-class Americans in the latter quarter of the 20th century. 2.1.5. It is reproducible. 2.2. Human health and healing: The health of the world and the health of its inhabitants are interrelated, spiritually and physically. This opens onto many avenues and domains, among which are the following: 2.2.1. Exploration of the subtle energy fields and interac- tions among people and all living things, which involves experiments with alternative methods of healing. Several techniques are of particular interest: 2.2.1.1. Hands on healing. 2.2.1.2. Absent healing. 2.2.1.3. Auric and chakra energy balancing. 2.2.1.4. Herbal remedies. 2.2.1.5. Flower essences. 2.2.1.6. The properties of water as a healing agent. 2.2.1.7. The properties of crystals as healing agents. 2.2.1.8. The significance of music in human well being. 2.2.1.9. The significance of color in human well being. 2.3. General education: man's place in the spiritual/physical cosmos. 2.3.1. Effective education rests upon a thorough re-thinking of widely held and firmly entrenched assumptions about the nature of education and the nature of man, such as the following: 2.3.1.1. Education is something that only takes place within the walls of a properly accredited institution, and under the guidance of desig- nated authorities. 2.3.1.2. Education consists of the transfer of infor- mation from the knowledgeable to the igno- rant. 2.3.1.3. A man is a biological mechanism cast naked and alone upon the perilous seas of a hostile universe. 2.3.2. Some starting assumptions upon which education at HarmonHouse is based: 2.3.2.1. Education consists of re-cognition of what is already known to the original mind of man. If the truth were not already known, it could never be re-cognized, and learning could not occur. 2.3.2.2. Until the meaning of the words, "God is" is understood, all people involved with educa- tion are learners. 2.3.2.3. Learning takes place in response to the learner's interest in the subject of study. 2.3.2.4. Learning is its own reward. 2.3.2.5. Learners and teachers naturally and fre- quently exchange rolls during the learning process. 2.3.2.6. Education concerns itself with all truth, and so has no borders or boundaries in either time or space. Its sole purpose is the fur- therance of human understanding and well being. 2.4. Historical research: rediscovery of valuable nuggets of wis- dom from other places and times. 2.5. Eclectic melding of esoteric wisdom from diverse sources with what is valuable of modern insight. 3. Implementation: HarmonHouse is nothing, if not guided by God, so it is expected to unfold in a spontaneous, intuitive, and unfet- tered way. Indeed, it is already in the process of unfolding, and has been for the past several years at least. 3.1. Research/design/publications is the bread and butter of the enterprise, its primary means of economic support. In gen- eral, commercial clients will be those with needs that can be met with the research, design, and publishing resources of HarmonHouse. 3.2. HarmonHouse is a publisher of works originating both in house and from other sources. Every aspect of publication is under- taken, excepting only printing, which is contracted out. 3.3. A spinoff of the succession of research projects will be a unique and accumulating library of highly diverse research reports, as well as materials acquired as research tools. It is desirable that these materials be stored in digital form in such a way that they are highly accessible for further research. 3.4. Integral to conducting research is the writing of research reports to clientele specifictions, i.e. writing copy that presents the research findings effectively. 3.5. Design takes research and copy writing to the next stage: typesetting and graphic design, as well as undertaking design projects which do not involve prior research. |

By way of a perhaps interesting asside, the image that became the logo for HARMONHOUSETM, and for the Freedom Digital Library, was initially developed during the period in which the above paragraphs were composed, and the original drawing still accompanies the hard-copy text reproduced above. At the time, the Internet and the World Wide Web still lay in the unimagined future, and there was no basis, then, for envisioning a "digital library" of Free Information. Yet when the pieces eventually fell into place, the logo was already waiting for the birth of the FDL.
Looking over the above draft after it had lain dormant for about 15 years, we were startled by the extent to which the original vision for "HarmonHouse" has been fulfilled in HARMONHOUSETM Designs; especially in sections 2.3, General education, and 3, Implementation. This is still a fair description of what we actually do at HHD. That is, we communicate, and we assist our clients in communicating the messages they wish to convey to their intended audience. If you resonate with our style and approach to communication, and require assistance with a digital or print communication project, or both, do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
